*sample itinerary is located at the bottom of this document*
Q: When is it?
A: January 27th-29th 2023
Q: What is Murder Mystery Weekend?
A: A two night experience set in the 1920’s at our bed and breakfast in Stanhope, New Jersey. All guests receive a character card within a week of purchasing their room and tickets. The character will be determined through a brief phone “interview” with Celia or Audry, and will be sent via email along with more information regarding the Murder Mystery Weekend. This is the character they will act as during the evening events of the weekend and the game. Guests can select one of our 8 beautifully appointed rooms to relax in during their stay.
Q: What is included?
A: Includes an introductory cocktail hour on the 27th, 2 seasonally inspired breakfasts, 1 four-course sit down dinner on the 28th, a primary role in the 2 hour murder mystery game on the 28th, 24/7 refreshments and snacks during stay, and a keepsake “suspect” polaroid to commemorate the weekend.
Q: How much is it?
A: The Murder Mystery Weekend is priced at $150 per person, and requires a 2 night minimum stay. Room rates vary, please visit https://www.whistlingswaninn.com/guest-rooms-view-all.htm to view all of our guest rooms. Select “Book Now” and enter the dates of the event to reserve your spot!
Q: Where is it?
A: Murder Mystery Weekend is held at the Whistling Swan Inn Bed and Breakfast at 110 Main Street in Stanhope, New Jersey.
Q: What information will be on my character card?
A: Character cards will include the name and brief description, suggested props, secrets to hide from other players, and secrets to share!
Q: What’s on the menu for dinner?
A: We have carefully curated a 4 course dinner with authentic 1920’s offerings all made in house from scratch by Innkeeper and Owner, Audry Burnett.
Dinner will begin with Tomato Bisque Soup and Waldorf Salad, followed by Bourbon Sweet Potatoes, Roasted Vegetables with Hollandaise Sauce, Sauteed Mushrooms and Onions, and Roast Chicken.
Dessert including Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Creme Brulee, and Caramel Cake will be served in the back parlor (referred to as the “Swan Speakeasy) before the game begins!
Q: Are alcoholic beverages included?
A: This event is BYOB, although we will be offering complimentary “Prohibition Punch” (champagne and pomegranate juice) for a toast before the Murder Mystery Game begins! We will also be offering select mocktails for guests to enjoy.
Q: What awards will be given out after the murderer is revealed?
A: We will be offering awards for “Most in Character”, “Best Acted Death”, and “Closest Guess”. Awards winners will receive a certificate, along with prizes!
Q: Is this a Murder Mystery Theater Dinner?
A: This is not a Murder Mystery Theater event. All guests will have a brief interview with Celia or Audry to determine the most suitable character for them. All guests are given characters that play a vital role in the game. Guests that may prefer a more introverted character can discuss secondary character options at the time of interview, or by emailing celia@whistlingswaninn.com.
Q: Can I participate in the event if I am not an overnight guest?
A: Unfortunately we cannot open this particular event to the public since it is organized as a 2 night event.
However if you are interested in attending a murder mystery game that is 1 night only and open to the public, please email celia@whistlingswaninn.com so we can add you to our interest list for future events!
We hope you are able to join us in this fun filled experience! Feel free to call the Inn at 973-347-6369 or email us at info@whistlingswaninn.com if you have any questions! Please view the sample weekend itinerary below.
